Impressions from NACS 2009Keynote speeches adressed this year’s theme from different angles. Mark Elvin had a historical take on part of the puzzle of why given their very similar initial conditions Europe lived through an industrial revolution (modernized) while China did not. Cui Zhiyuan followed with an analysis of the lessons that China can learn from the financial crisis. Rachel Murphy talked about ‘melon munchers’ and mobile media in Jiangxi province; how new media promise to fundamentally change conditions for people living in rural China. »
